PRE-COMPETITION AND COMPETITION TEAMS

Minnesota Twisters teams are comprised of athletes of all ages and skill levels. Currently team members range in age from 5 to 25 years and skill levels range from beginning competition level Junior Olympic 5 through Senior Elite World Cup Team members. The focus of team training and competition is appropriate skill development, routine and pass development to prepare athletes for the competitive environment. Training is held year round with flexibility in time commitment for the month of August (after the National Championships). Training focuses on learning skills and then competitive routines for the competition season which begins in January with local competitions and culminates in the State Championships. All athletes are eligible to compete in the State Championships. Those successfully competing in the State Championships can qualify for the Great Lakes Regional Championships. Junior Olympic level 10 athletes can compete at the Regional Championships additionally for a spot on the Adidas-sponsored Regional Team which will compete for Regional honors at the US National Championships. All athletes at all levels qualifying at the Regional Championships will be eligible to compete at one of two competitions: Junior Olympic level 5 through level 10 will qualify for the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Trampoline and Tumbling National Championships and Junior and Senior Elite athletes qualify for the USA Gymnastics John Hancock Senior National Championships. Nationals are held each year in large venues around the United States. They have been held in Anaheim, Walt Disney Sports Complex at Disney World, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Dallas, San Antonio and Nashville just to name a few.  Summer 2003 Nationals were held in July in Sacramento, California.

There are three levels of commitment to team training with the Minnesota Twisters.

1. Beginning (Pre-competition) team athletes train one time per week for two hours at a time. Choose either Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:00 p.m or one of these team nights and an additional class. Athletes compete at local competitions and end their season with the State Championships. The possibility of competing at the Regional Championships is optional. Cost per month is $TBD. Athletes at this competition level are required to purchase competition attire (i.e., leotard for girls and whites and competition shirt for boys). The team warmup jacket is optional.

2. Competition team athletes train two times per week, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Athletes at this competitive commitment compete at local competitions, the State Championships, Regional Championships and, if qualified, the National Championships. Cost per month is $TBD. Athletes at this competition level are required to purchase competition attire including the warmup jacket.

3. Competition team athletes have an alternate choice of a more intensive commitment and may choose to train three or more times per week. Workouts are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:00 p.m. plus additional workouts as determined. Athletes at this competitive commitment also compete at local competitions, the State Championships, Regional Championships and the National Championships. Cost per month is based upon time commitment.  Call to discuss specific circumstances.   Athletes at this competition level also are invited to perform in local demonstrations such as the Minnesota Vikings-Green Bay Packers Half-Time Show, Saint Paul Saints Baseball Games, Hoigaards Ski Sale Demo with the US Freestyle Ski Team, Mall of America Back to School Fashion Show, etc. As such, an additional leotard for girls (demo team leotard) or competition shirt for boys is required. Athletes at this commitment may be invited to compete in US World Age Group Team Trials or other appropriate International competitions when the appropriate skill level has been attained.

The Minnesota Twisters Booster Club, a 501©3 non-profit organization, exists solely to support the team and to assist with fundraising to attend out of town competitions. Membership for all team families is required.
